MS Removal Tool Virus

Pray that you never run afoul of a nasty virus known as the MS Removal Tool Virus. The MS removal tool virus has run rampant for the last year or so in various guises, but in all incarnations, it wrecks havoc with computers, often causing computers to crash, freeze, burn up your hard drive and other wise cause chaos and destruction in its wake. Worse still, this virus is self repairing, so if you don’t get it properly ‘killed’, it will just come back later. How can you get rid of this terrible virus?

History of the MS Removal Tool Virus

The MS Removal Tool virus has shown up in one guise or another for a couple of years. It is one of the most destructive and insidious viruses out there today because it not only infects your computer and makes it vulnerable to adware and other malware, but also compromises your security-passwords, bank accounts, everything is suddenly much more open to attack. The MS removal tool virus was created by the same people who created the System Tool malware a couple of years ago. The original intent was likely to force you into thinking you had to keep purchasing their products in order to ‘clean’ your computer out, but of course as with any malware, this one opens you up to further attacks. (And really, the original intent is bad enough!)

How the MS Removal Tool Virus Strikes

A huge problem with this virus is the many ways it can hit your computer. The most common way is through downloaded content-you download music, movies or a game and the virus comes with it. However, it can also be contracted by you clicking on a pop-up ad claiming that your computer is full of spyware and only this program can help you or it can come about as a result of tricking you into thinking you are downloading legitimate anti-virus software (after all, it looks an awful lot like the real removal tool Microsoft put out.) Regardless, once the virus gets into your computer, it becomes a real nuisance to get out again and in the meantime, it wrecks all manner of havoc.

Symptoms of the MS Removal Tool Virus

If you have been infected with the MS Removal Tool virus, you’ll know! This virus pretty well locks up your computer and demands that you purchase software intended to ‘clean’ your computer or else you won’t be able to access much of anything. You will also notice a plethora of pop-up ads, far slower running times and difficulty booting up your computer in the first place. You’ll know if you have it!

How to Get Rid of the MS Removal Tool

If you’ve been infected, you’re in for a bit of a fight. There is only one way to get rid of this virus and that is to download a spyware doctor and then boot up your infected computer in safe mode with networking. Install the spyware doctor in this mode and then click smart update so that the ‘doctor’ will have all of its tools. Get it to scan your computer and when it’s complete, the MS Removal tool will show up on the list of files found. Check it off and hit FIX. Then go to your computer in Normal mode and scan again, just to be sure.

Alternatively, you should take your computer to an IT specialist and ask him or her to fix it for you if you are really struggling to get your computer to work right. There is no shame in this and you don’t want your computer to turn into a pretty paperweight which it will be until this virus is stomped on. Once it’s gone, breathe your sigh of relief and repeat after me:

‘I will never download anything that hasn’t been properly scanned first.’

(Don’t worry; one of my laptops became a pretty paperweight when it was zapped by a cousin of this virus; it can happen to anyone!)

The MS Removal Tool virus is nasty, but you can get rid of it if you work fast and smart.
